[It's weird, checking up on his boss like this, but this is the first time someone he knows has disappeared from the contacts list--and Phoenix is bound to be more affected than he is.]
Mr. Wright? [A pause, because while he likes to be as straightforward with his intentions as possible, he's still hesitant to show concern when it comes to Phoenix. He's not too keen to have his words brushed aside.]
[It's not hard to guess what this is in reference towards. Phoenix had been giving Athena some space since she seemed to be closed off after the ghost shenanigans... and just as he was preparing to have a talk with her, he was blindsided by Maya's disappearance. And now there's this... Phoenix gives a weak, soft smile as he replies.]
He's been trying to deal with his mask (the blood beginning to drip down it is not the most cheerful sight to see), but he's starting to realize that trying to get rid of it...doesn't work.
Unfortunately.
Still, he wouldn't be Leon Magnus if he just gave up, which is why he's now trying to rinse it off in one of the ponds in the park--but when that still doesn't get rid of the blood, he throws his hands up in the air in frustration (along with the mask) and probably splashes water everywhere too. Hopefully you weren't out for a nice stroll or something, Phoenix.]
[A good walk in the park should help to clear my mind...
Phoenix did have a lot on his mind - between lamenting recent disappearances, feeling puzzled about the mysteries of Cerealia, being frustrated by this mask that won't leave him alone and thinking about a girl he likes a lot. All equally important subjects to be sure. His own mask is tucked away inside of his suit jacket for the moment; he's given up his own attempts to be rid of it, so he has instead opted to keep it out of sight and out of mind for now.
But then, his peaceful reverie is interrupted by the scene he comes. Phoenix winces as he's splashed by the water and notices an object flying towards him courtesy of the strange man, and he narrows catches the object in his hands while he looks to scold the stranger, in a joking manner at least.]
Whoa! Hey, you really have to be careful while you're washing your... [He glances down at it.] ...mask?
( When the video feed flicks on, Integra is sitting on a bed-- and by the looks of it, one that is not her own. The room which she resides is filled with frilly dolls, stuffed animals, and pastels. It contrasted her own black and white attire, devoid of colour beyond the red cravat around her neck.
When she speaks her tone is soft, but strained; as if teetering on the edge of tears. )
[Phoenix is sitting at his desk, poring over some papers, and he looks up in concern at the CereVice as he notices Integra, and the very uncharacteristic environment. He quickly wonders what's going on.]
[After her conversation with Athena...Iris had meditated. Long and deep. Most of the rest of the afternoon was lost as she allowed herself to fall into a contemplative trance, sustained only by a lifetime of instruction and discipline.]
[When she came out of it, she knew what she had to do.]
[So she got up, splashed some cold water over her face, and headed for Phoenix' apartment. By that time of day, he would have been home. She was nearly certain of it. It was the only thing she was nearly certain of right then, which is why, when she knocked and he eventually opened the door, he would be greeted with the sight of--]
[She wasn't crying, per say, but there would be a notable redness around her eyes from before that even the water couldn't wash away. Combined with the notably unhappy look on her face when she (wordlessly) glanced up at him, and...yeah.]
[Phoenix frowns as he finds her. He's taken off his suit jacket now that he's home, but he's otherwise still wearing all of the rest of his outfit. And he's immediately filled with protective concern.]
What happened? [It's clear already that something isn't right.]
[who is this brightly smiling face with an equally bright mullet?
well, it's not stahn aileron. no, the noble stahnbot is on a quest to help its master make more friends, after hearing stahn mention that he wanted to try and meet more people in cerealia. clearly, the solution to this is to... call people who have friendly-enough sounding voicemail messages. too bad the stahnbot has no idea that the two of them have already met.]
Hello, do you have a moment that I could use to speak with you!
[it's got stahn's energy down. there's a grin and a brightness to the tone, even if the voice only vaguely resembles his stahn's cadence. it's still tinny and robotic, and the speech patterns are still stiff.
but hey, it's trying really hard right now. it really wants for its master to make new friends! even if this is not how stahn would want to go about this.
[Luckily, Phoenix manages to answer before his robot gets to it. He has a toothbrush in hand, though, and it looks like he's just finished brushing his teeth. He's wearing casual hobo around the house clothing as he answers.
It's Stahn. He recognizes that sunshiney blonde anyway, and Phoenix just gives a curious look as he speaks.]
[after fiddling with her own robot and activating it, the first thing she does is menace Phoenix. Naturally, she doesn't bother calling him, but shows up at his apartment instead]
[what makes for the best meal ever? burgers. what makes them even better? making them yourself and having a storage of them for a couple days. that's riku's reasoning behind today's shopping trip. although he doesn't mind cooking, he doesn't mind not having to do it every day for every meal.
one of the things that makes a good burger is the buns. nothing ruins a burger faster than chewing through stale cardboard. through trial and error (aka dealing with the chewiest, most tasteless buns that have no right to be called buns), one brand has stood out above all the rest as the best. well, what do you know, one more package of them left. score! his lips twitch into a triumphant grin as he reaches for them. lady luck's playing nice today.]
[Maya has been back in town for over a month now, and although Phoenix missed his old assistant dearly, his wallet sure didn't. But he did the math, and buying materials for burgers is cheaper in the long run than eating out all the time.
So he's on his way to get the last part needed, and only the best will do. Because her taste buds won't want one unless it has buns, hun.
Only one package left! Phoenix gets an adrenaline rush and tries to reach out for it! ...Only to see another hand reaching as well.]
Hold it!! [Then he actually gets a good look at his rival, and his shoulders slump.] ...We have to stop meeting like this.
[COULD IT BE, THREE FOR THREE. No blocked numbers? No deaths, possibly?? That'd be a true Cerealian Christmas (in July) Miracle. Phoenix will be receiving this call about a day after The Tree Troop ends up being ported back.]
Hey—! [Guy with the weird hair, he almost says, because Phoenix's name totally slips his mind for a second.]
Phoenix! Did you— Are you back? You're back in the regular part of the city now, right?
[Phoenix had been worried the day before when he was unable to reach Kashuu. Could he have perished where the rest of them survived? He was starting to feel guilty about it.
So getting this call and just a day after the incident is just what Phoenix needed. His voice sounds very hopeful as he responds.]
Kashuu! Is that you? I'm back... Don't worry, all three of us made it back! We're back in town, alive and well!
[It’d been three days by her CEREVice’s clock since the incident. It wasn’t something Rei was particularly upset about, all things considered. What had happened was just something that had happened, and it was her fault for not weaving tighter defenses, really. It was not a pleasant feeling, knowing that she’d been gone, but it was less the actual cessation itself and more the ripple effect it would have on the people who knew her. She’d always been the strong one, someone that the colonists could rely on and take comfort in. Now she wasn’t sure how they’d react. Could she be that person, or would their viewpoint change when they learned what happened? Hopefully not.
Like always though, she isn’t going to do things by half measures. So once she’s changed into comfortable shoes she heads out to the various apartments of friends and compatriots, arriving with just a simple text to let them know she’s on her way.
Phoenix Wright is one of the first stops, and she knocks, waiting with bright, well rested eyes. Honestly, that was the most sleep she’s had in months! The plethora of messages he’d left for her had not gone unnoticed…]
[Under normal circumstances, Phoenix would respond to that by saying 'Hey Here. This is Phoenix!'
But Rei's been missing for days, and although he doesn't know for sure, he does know that some people died down there.]
Rei?! [There's the sound of some pans being set down in the kitchen and then he rushes to the door, quickly opening it and smiling in relief to see her.]
Rei! You... you're back! [He's wearing casual clothing and a pink apron.]
[ after getting home, and tending to a guest, she just plops on her bed. she doesn't know if she should contact anybody about what happened to maya (whom she thinks is dead now...) but she probably should. . .
she dials phoenix's number and there's a long pause before she speaks. ]
Hey... Mister Wright, I failed you. . . [ there's no cheer in her voice, too. ] I'm sorry.
Foolish Phoenix Wright! The time for us to discuss information has come. [ Hey man if she's bugging Phoenix there's a good reason for it. ]
I would like to remind you that CERES is eyeing all of our movements. Knowing this, I've decided that it'd be best for us to speak within the sanctuary walls.
( Oh, it's that moody grump who drives Phoenix to work every morning. Except, this time, there's a certain chime in her voice. A brighter-- almost bouncier timbre than what would be considered normal for her. For the first time in some many months, she seems content. This is a far cry from the solitary, melancholic woman who plays him Morrissey and reads Dostoevsky during Christmas. )
[That's her alright. Or so it seems. It's odd to hear her voice in that tone that he has a moment of uncertainty. Who are you and we have you done with Integra Hellsing.]
In- Integra? [He tries not to sound too confused.] Um, yeah, I'm around the shopping district right now. What's up?
[ athena should have sent this picture to all her contacts after the school festival, but events transpired and she totally forgot to do so. it's only now when she's clearing her inbox that she finds it again. and of course, she'd send it out to people!
there's no message, just a photo of edgeworth in ice skates. the more disturbing part of this image is that he's actually smiling. ]
