[And after a 'two bits' knock in kind, the door opens and there's Ema. She looks tired, somehow. Like she hasn't slept too well. Not awful, just not...peppy.]
Come in, Mister Wright.
[She's sparse on furniture, but the place is pretty tidy (for once.)] And have a seat. I'm sorry to bug you like this, I just need to talk about what happened with someone.
[And there's Phoenix. He looks a bit tired himself - it's hard to get sleep when ghosts are running amok in the city after all - but he still does feel concerned for Ema's state. He greets her with a light smile as he enters the room.]
Don't mind if I do, Ema.
[Then sits down in one of the seats and looks around pensively.]
What happened? Is there anyone who needs to beat up? [Most likely by anyone who isn't me. But it would be flattering if she assumed I could pull it off myself.]
I- I heard about that kind of thing, yes. [He frowns.] Ema... Did that happen to you as well? [His first assumption is that it must have been Lana, and that must have been very hard on her...]
[She'd been lucky. That bus driver had swerved at the last second.]
I saw myself. At least, the identification card on her uniform said Ema Skye.
[And that had been enough. It'd been something she wanted to avoid. It was one thing to doubt yourself and your future. Quite another to have it used against you.]
I want to know more about my future. Because that woman didn't look like the kind of person I want to become. And if Mister Justice and Mister Klavier's reactions to me are any indication...that person isn't a very nice person. I don't become a bad guy, do I?
[Not all of it, she understands the reticence, and manages a weak smile.]
I mean, I know it's bad. It's not what I expect, I know that. But I just...don't want to turn out to be a rotten egg. I don't know why, but I keep thinking about that, and how those two seem...wary of me?
[Unobservant she is not. And it's hard to miss anything Apollo does anyway, animated as he is.]
[He nods slowly and looks towards her with a light smile.]
Ema...
You're the opposite of a rotten egg. [Does that make her... a nice egg? A goose? I'm not sure, but whatever it is, she's it.] They're just wary because it's different. Your future. And just like me, they don't want to risk giving away things you shouldn't know yet. Unlike me, they don't have the advantage of having known you at this age, too.
[He pauses, folding his hands together, and his smile grows more wistful as he goes on.]
Things won't go as you expect. That's right, Ema. But despite that, you're still going to help us solve a number of cases. Whatever it is that you will become, you are still going to be an invaluable ally in seeking out the truth and saving innocent lives. And you'll always be an invaluable friend as well.
[Slowly, she nods, taking all of that in. Somehow, some way, she'd figured that something was going to go wrong. This was the nail in that coffin, and it hurt. Of course it did. What did you expect, numbskull? Of course it hurts. But there are words of encouragement in there too. Little things that make it hurt a little less. She knows she helps Edgeworth, and Apollo and Klavier both have told her that much. They aren't lying, she trusts that much. They're not telling her the truth, presumably to spare her, but she can live with that. But she'd needed to hear this, that she's sure of.
Because even if she isn't where she wants to be, there's something Lana had always made sure she understood. That the best way to live your life was by helping other people. That's why she was a detective, and why Ema had wanted to be one. And...]
I'm going to become a part of the police...and I will still help people? No matter what, right?
You got it right on the money, Ema. I know that I can always count on you - at any age. [I'm sure that Senior Citizen Ema will be full of surprises too someday.]

[Sitting, Ema folds her hands in her lap, and starts right on in.]
Did you see or hear about the ghosts taking different forms? People that we know, or people that we care about?

I- I heard about that kind of thing, yes. [He frowns.] Ema... Did that happen to you as well? [His first assumption is that it must have been Lana, and that must have been very hard on her...]

And then, he's left with the most awkward question to answer. The one he was hoping not to have to face with Ema.
Why do I have to be the one to dash her hopes and dreams?]
Ema... You're not going to be a bad guy at all. That would never happen in a million years.
What's going to happen is... It's different. [He sighs and glances uncertainly.] Is it really such a good idea to know too much about your own future?

[Seriously, though? That finger-gun makes her smile just a bit.]
And I guess I'm lucky, in a way, to have an idea of what's coming...

It's never too early too early to start preparing for the future, Ema, as long as you still hold onto who you are now at the same time.
