For training purposes...and self-isolation... [The latter spoken with more than a hint of residual sadness and guilt.] ...it's ideal. I'm sure your time with Mystic Maya has given you some idea of what types of endurance being a practitioner of the Kurain arts entrails.
[Iris froze in place. Lips parting as she turned back to him with slightly widened eyes.]
[It was no secret, of course. How he felt. That much, she'd been certain of for a while now. Still...to hear him say those words...and so casually, as if it were the most natural thing in the world...]
[Her eyes softened even as her cheeks flooded with red.]
[It has slipped out so naturally that Phoenix did not even realize what she had said. So he's befuddled by her reaction for a moment and tries to recall what he just said.]
What... the part about trials and tribulations? [It doesn't sound like a smooth line to me.]
I did?! [Then, he quickly tries to save himself by starting more firmly.] I did.
[It had almost felt unspoken between them in all of their time together here. He had almost forgotten that he had not actually said it aloud. So he looks at her with eyes full of sincerity and affection.]
[The whole world around them--insanity and all--faded into the background as she stared up at him. Warmth flooded her whole body. Not just her cheeks, although those were appropriately rosy. Her eyes glistened with pure happiness.]
[With all of this extra time that he's had with Iris here in this world, Phoenix had felt like he couldn't be happier. But he was wrong. Because now, hearing those words brought on a new high. He felt... warm, and fulfilled. As happy as could be.
He stopped for a moment, to take both of her hands in his.]
It's been a long time for me, too... [And he leans down to press his lips tenderly against hers.]
[She had to reach up on the ball of her feet to reach. With the height difference and all. But she might as well have been floating, how easy it was for her lips to find his. Her eyes closed and she allowed herself the moment.]
[Her hands came up to wrap gently around his neck. Fingers brushing ever so slightly against the nape. Toying with the little hair beneath his pointy, slicked style. She smiled against him, remaining as physically close as possible even after separating for air.]
[And Phoenix leaned over as well to try to close their height difference on his end. His hands settled on her shoulders as he gentle kiss unfolded, and he almost giggled as she played with his hair. After the kiss, his face only drifted inches from hers, as he tried to replace today's dramatic memories with this pure one.]
...That was great. [Those are the only words he can manage to find.]
[He had three words. She had none. Only a warm smile beneath heavily lids as she gazed up at him. Hands coming to rest gently against his chest. Too content to break the spell between them with further words.]

But is life up in the mountains that convenient to begin with? [Or at least, to a city slicker like me.]

It's definitely rougher up there then in the city! You guys sit beneath frozen waterfalls, while we panic when our showers turn cold!

I'm sure, with a bit of time and practice, you'd be able to endure it just as well as any of us.

No. The part before that.

Um... Repeat it for me?
[That'll clear it up!]

I love you too, Feenie. I have for a long time.
